Cambridge Islamic Sciences Seminars is one of the education divisions of the Muslim Education & Outreach Cambridge (MEOC). MEOC is a not-for-profit community organisation working towards creating an influential and dynamic Muslim community which engages with and contributes to the wider society. MEOC is run entirely by volunteers and we warmly welcome the support of the community.
The Cambridge Islamic Sciences Seminars Series gives an introduction to the various Islamic Sciences in a scholarly and academic setting. The motivation for the seminars is based on the following Ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man or woman. The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion". [Abu Dawood]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When Allah desires good for someone, He gives him understanding of the Religion." [Bukhari].
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Truly, Allah will not take away knowledge by snatching it away from people, but by taking away the lives of the people of knowledge one by one until none of them survive..." [Bukhari & Muslim]
