[Classical Text Diploma] Imam Bukhari Puts Modern Academics To Shame

"Imam Bukhari is more academic and scientific than any of the academics of our time" - Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi

Introduction to Classical Islamic Texts Diploma kicks off next month with a 2-day seminar on the Introduction to Sahih Al-Bukhari. Many of us have heard about Sahih Al-Bukhari and perhaps also read it but do we really know what Sahih Bukhari is?

We marvel at the sophistication of modern research, scientific inquiry and academic rigour but do we know how much more sophisticated the methodology and research of Imam Bukhari is? Do we know how much more academic Imam Bukhari is?

This is your opportunity to get to know Imam Bukhari is his Sahih more closely with this historic diploma programme by Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi - one of the foremost scholars, researchers and thinkers in the world today.

“We have to first appreciate and understand what the Muslim scholars have done because we do not really know this. People say “Bukhari” but they don’t know what Sahih Bukhari means. People say “Sahih Muslim” but they don’t understand what it means. People mention the name of Waliullah Dehlawi but they don’t understand his contribution. So what we are going to do in this programme is to introduce to you these people and their works and show how sophisticated their methodology is, how great their minds are and how big their thinking is. These people are the mujtahideen or the thinkers of Islam and we will learn and understand what they have been doing in this programme. This programme will also help us not take our religion as something superficial, and not to take the Islamic sciences as something at the surface. Islamic sciences are much deeper and we have to go deep. At the end of the programme you will not become an expert of Hadith or Fiqh or Tafsir but it will at least push you in that direction. It will help you to realise that we need to do much effort to at least understand them. So if you cannot produce a work like Bukhari at least you should understand what he has done. If you cannot produce a work like Waliullah Dehlawi at least you should be able to understand what he has done. No doubt once you do this it will help you to produce works that would be useful in your own context.” - Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi [Introduction to Classical Islamic Texts Diploma]
