The End of the World is in Sight - What Have You Sent Forward?

<<When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness], and when the stars fall, dispersing, and when the mountains are removed, and when full-term she-camels are neglected, and when the wild beasts are gathered, and when the seas are filled with flame, and when the souls are paired, and when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed, and when the pages are made public, and when the sky is stripped away, and when Hellfire is set ablaze, and when Paradise is brought near, a soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].>> [Surah Al-Takwir 81:1-14]
<<When the sky breaks apart, And when the stars fall, scattering, and when the seas are erupted, and when the [contents of] graves are scattered, a soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back. O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous, who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you? In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.>> [Surah Al-Infitar 82:1-8]

Surah Al-Takwir and Surah Al-Infitar are two surahs which form a pair in the Qur'an describing the end of time in graphic detail. These two surahs give a clear reminder to mankind that every soul will come to know what it has put forth or brought with it for the Hereafter and what it has kept back. 'Sending forward' must be central in the life of every human being as only what is sent forward has any value when the world and the entire universe will come to an end. This reminder is even more important for us living at this time because the thought of sending forward is virtually non-existent today; rather everyone seeks to hold on to things. These two surahs of the Qur'an will help us to renew our direction and objectives in life as it helped the early believing community.
